VP8/S. SOUTH GEORGIA (Update)
Mike, GM0HCQ/MM, onboard the "Royal Research Ship James Clark Ross, is scheduled to possibly be active again as VP8SGK from King Edward Point Base station, South Georgia (AN-007). According to his latest update [edited]:

"The current plan has the ship working cargo at Bird Island on Sunday, 18th November. If the cargo work is not completed and the weather remains good then the ship may well remain here for a further day, which means that at present the proposed arrival dates for King Edward Pont, South Georgia, are either Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th. The ship is likely to arrive by 1200z. If the ship does arrive at 1200z, then I am likely to have work to carry out for most of the morning and part of the afternoon. I do have to visit the base to look over the radio equipment and once I have done this I would hope to be able to operate as VP8SGK. .

I anticipate this to be after 1700 or 1800z. Proposed frequencies: As it is likely to be an afternoon of operating I suspect that ideally I would be best working on 15m. However, there may be an issue with the antenna and the transceiver not loading on this band. If so I will then have to drop down to 17m and perhaps 20m. I propose to use the following frequencies: 21187kHz, 18157kHz or 14187kHz. All operations will be on SSB, which is not by choice but due to not wanting to carry a whole pile of kit ashore with me. The transceiver is a commercial unit, a Skanti TRP800 (I think) and does not have any fancy filters. Hopefully, I will be able to plug in a set of headphones from the ship."

QSLing is only direct for all contacts. All contacts will be on e-QSL or LoTW. NO BUREAU QSLS. Full details on QSLing are available at:
