CY0P SABLE ISLAND DXPEDITION (Update)
The following was posted on the CY0 DXpedition Web page, August 10th [edited]:

"The intention remains to fly to Sable Island on September 30th, using Maritime Air, and bookings have been made for the aircraft and for local accommodations in Halifax for Murray and Rick prior to departure. Murray intends to focus on getting the VE1RGB and AI5P stations on the air on the day of arrival, likely using wires, and his own station up and running with Yagis on the second day. All but one of the beams have been received, pre-assembled, tuned and disassembled, and mono-band dipoles for 40M through 10M are on order from Amateur Radio Supplies. One telescoping fiberglass mast (39 feet) has been pre-rigged and will carry a 160M wire dipole fed with window line and driven by a K3 to operate on all bands. The second mast, an aluminum Army-surplus assembly, is on hand.

Marshalling of equipment continues in Halifax. Where possible, resources retained from previous CY0 DXpeditions are being re-used (e.g., masts) and to save shipping weights from the USA to Canada, other items of equipment (e.g., the back-up HF radio) are being loaned from Canada. Weight for this trip, like all DXpeditions, is a concern: total allowed weight for the Britten-Norman Islander aircraft is 1400 pounds, including passengers. Because of that and other than fresh fruit to combat scurvy (J) -- the team will attempt to exist on freeze-dried food.

Of interest to contesters, VE1RGB will be S&P in the California QSO Party on Oct. 5-6th, operating as VE1RGB/CY0 and sending the MR exchange: a contest multiplier; an IOTA (NA-063); and a DXCC entity with a single QSO! Other than that, based on antenna selections and equipment, it is antic- ipated that the VE1RGB station will focus on western EU and on NA while Murray and Rick will be more intent on Asia and other DX. It is expected that operations will be conducted 24/7.

The QSL Manager for CY0P will be VE1RGB. Since most of the logging will on paper (i.e., to save weight), LoTW, eQSL and ClubLog will not be supported. Direct QSLs will require 2 USDs to cover postage and QSL card costs; otherwise, cards will probably be returned via the bureau, although there is now also a cost for that service from Radio Amateurs of Canada. A significant portion of the QSLs will be mailed from Canada; the remainder may be mailed from the US where postal rates are less onerous. Since this adventure is being privately funded, any additional contributions accom- panying QSL requests will be gratefully received. To that end, it may be useful to point out that the round-trip charter air flight for Sable Island 2013 is $12,000 and accommodations on Sable are $300 per day per person. Operations from CY0 are not in-expensive. Please consider this fact in helping to offset the costs of QSL'ing. Thank you.

For additional information on some of our plans, see the 'upcoming' September issue of DX Magazine and/or the September issue of the Halifax ARC Reflector

http://www.halifax-arc.org/
Check also on QRZ.com under, VE1RGB, WA4DAN and/or CY0P for updates, as well as this site, at
http://www.CY0dxpedition.com."
Just a reminder that the DXpedition to Sable Island will take place between October 1-11th. Activity will be on 160-10 meter using CW, SSB and RTTY.

VP2M, MONTSERRAT
Alan, N3AD, will once again be active as VP2MMM during the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 23-24th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High- Power entry. Activity will be from Gingerbread Hill in St.Peter's. Alan informs OPDX [edited],

"I will arrive on Tuesday, November 19th and leave on Tuesday, November 26th. Since I have to assemble antennas there, I will not be on the air before Wednesday or possible Thursday. I will be active in the contest and will be on before the contest depending on how many snags I run into assembling antennas. Before the contest, I will stick with CW on 160-10 meters as at that time my goal is to test the station for the contest. On Monday after the contest, I do have to disassemble antennas, but will try to leave one wire antenna up and use it with tuner on some of the WARC bands - CW only."
