3C0/3C1, ANNOBON ISLAND & EQUATORIAL GUINEA (Update). As this was being
written on Wednesday, operators Yuris/YL2GM and Kaspars/YL3AIW have ended
their 3C0L Annobon Island (AF-039) operation early October 25th, and were
at the Annobon airport waiting for their departure back to Malabo. The
update states, "Will see what's up in Malabo, as they have missed their
flight home which was scheduled for October 23rd. 30000 QSOs in the log.
They went QRT around 05:30 GMT to pack the remaining antennas and other
stuff. If flight will be postponed again, they will put back the small
vertical and continue." QSL via YL2GN direct or ClubLog's OQRS (direct
or Bureau). Look for the logs to be uploaded to LoTW six months after
their operations. Updates are being posted to:
                            http://www.lral.lv/3c0l_3c1l
LAST MINUTE UPDATE: October 26th [edited] -- "Plans regarding 3C1L have
changed. Yuris and Kaspars are in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, and Yuris
says that they plan to continue as 3C1L. He is looking for proper QTH.
But they are not QRV yet. It was a pirate playing on the air earlier
this evening on 80m band. The spare 2nd K3 have arrived, but has not
yet passed customs. They still haven't managed to get to the Internet
to upload the logs. Date of flying home is not known yet.
Regarding K3s - those who posted negative comments on DX-Cluster about
failing K3s, please bear in mind the conditions they were being operated
at 3C0 (jumping mains voltage 120-180 V). If you dare to test transceiver,
or even better - two of them - of your beloved brand in similar conditions
for about 12 days, then lets compare the results."

IOTA NEWS..............
  OC-216/ (Update) Operators Mike/AB5EB, Mike/AD5A and Craig/VK5CE will
OC-234. be active as VK9AR from Ashmore Reef between November 7-10th.
Activity will be on 40-15 meters with three stations on the
air at the same time; two with amps. QSL via VK5CW, direct
or by the Bureau or ClubLog's OQRS. For more details and
           updates, see: https://ashmorereef.wordpress.com
OCTOBER 25th: (UPDATE - de Craig/VK5CE -- One Week To Go)
[edited] Mike/AB5EB, Mike/AD5A and Craig/VK5CE have all paid
for the boat in full to Ashmore Reef, this was the most expensive
component of the DXpedition. The boat has confirmed the dates
and times of our journey. We depart Broome WA on the morning of
Sunday November 5th. We arrive at Ashmore Reef around 0500 UTC
or noon local time on Tuesday, November 7th. We hope to be on
air as soon as we can in the afternoon, please be aware there
is no infrastructure on the reef and we need to bring equipment
via zodiac. The biggest issue is the weather with temperatures
going to be over 35C and very humid. It’ll be slow going.
We need to depart Ashmore Reef by 0100 UTC or 9am local on
Saturday, November 11th. As we are only allowed to be on the
island during dawn in the morning to dusk in the late afternoon/
early evening, it means our operating times are around 2100 to
1000 UTC. See the "PROPAGATION" page on our website to show you
how to get in the log and where we will be. I spoke on the phone
with the Commonwealth Government on Monday and the dawn to dusk
rules still apply. If there are problems with tides or weather,
then it may mean we are able to be on the island longer, but you
           can't rely on that happening.
Prior to departing for OC-198 I freighted up some equipment to
Broome that I didn't need for VK5CE/8 such as a Honda Generator,
Dunestar band pass filters, etc. These have all arrived now.
After the OC-198 DXpedition, on the way back when I reached Alice
Springs I freighted the second Honda Generator to Broome and its
currently in transit. This means we can have a high power SSB
station, high power CW station and 100W SSB/CW station on the
           air at the same time.
At the end of next week we all jump on a plane and meet up in
Perth WA on Friday, November 3rd, and we are on the same flight
up to Broome later that day.
So not long now. On behalf of Mike Sr. and Mike Jr. and
myself, we look forward to giving you another rare IOTA....hope-
fully a few days after you also work those crazy rockhoppers in
           Liberia!!!! Cheers Craig
LAST MINUTE UPDATE: Look for operators Mike/AB5EB, Mike/AD5A
and Craig/VK5CE to conduct a quick 4 hour operation from Browse
Island (OC-234) on their journey back to mainland Australia.
Browse Island OC-234 is a small 35 acre uninhabited island which
is an important nesting site for Green Turtles and many seabirds.
It was activated only once before as VK6BM back in 2000 and is
claimed by 10.2% of chasers. The trio will use the callsign
VK9AR/6 around 2000 UTC on Saturday, November 11th.

SA-078. Operators YL Núria/EA3WL and Josep/EA3BT inform OPDX, "After the
great success of our last operations from Corn Island (NA-013)
in Nicaragua as H74B and H74W, and Bijagos Islands (AF-020) in
Guinea-Bissau as J5B and J5W, we are pleased to finally announce
our next operation." Look for Josep and Núria to be active as
5K1B from Mucura Island (San Bernardo Islands), Colombia,
between November 21-28th. Last operation from this reference
was in 2008 (more than 9 years ago !!!!). Activity will be on
80-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. They will have 1 full
station: Icom IC-7300, Expert 1.3 FA amp into a EAxbeam (20-6m)
and wire dipoles (30/40/80m). Watch QRZ.com for updates. Also
available the QSO Director Tool for checking the online logs
direct in real time , if internet works
properly, of course! QSL via EA3BT. They will also use Clublog's
OQRS (preferred). Both operators will be on the air as much as
           possible.

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE :
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

Also, check out the VOACAP predication Web page at:

STANDARD TIME. Remember to change your clocks next weekend! Countries who
observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), which took place on Sunday, March
13th, are now expected to move their "local clocks" backward 1 hour on
Sunday, November 5th, from 2:00 AM local time to 1:00 AM. In 2018, Day-
light Saving Time (DST) will again go into effect on Sunday, March 11th,
at 2:00 AM local time. For the history and details about ST and DST, as
well as an interesting map of the world (showing the countries who observe
DST), see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_time
              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time
              http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/2018.html
ADDED NOTE: Hopefully, all amateur radio operators know NOT to change
their GMT/UTC/ZULU clocks. However, since most operators usually set their
computers to local time, some may have to change their settings on "some"
ham radio software (ex. logging, propagation, DXTelnet, etc..) programs.

TF, ICELAND. Siggi, TF3CW, will be active during the CQWW DX SSB Contest
(October 28-29th) as Single-Op/Single-Band (40m) entry. QSL via LX1NO
direct only. No QSL via Bureau.

V3, BELIZE (Reminder). Robert, DL7VOA, and his XYL will be following the
tracks of the Maya in Central America with their final recreational stay
in Belize. Robert has written permission to use the special callsign V34AO
from Hopkins in Belize between November 18-30th. The QTH will be directly
on the beach of Hopkins with every QSO made viewing over the Caribbean Sea.
As usual, operating will take place in "holiday style" mainly on CW during
the local evening and night hours (maybe some SSB, no digital). Robert
will have his little Elecraft K2 with him running 100 watts into a 10m
fiberglass pole with vertical dipoles on 10/12/15/17/20m, ground-planes
for 30m/40m or an Inverted L for 80m. He will join the CQWW DX CW Contest
(November 25-26th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power, with the only focus
on having fun in pile-ups. He states, "The contest weekend will be (mostly)
mine, but during the rest of the time please understand that during day
time there are other important holiday activities to be undertaken with
my wife like relaxing, snorkeling, flying my drone, etc. instead of con-
ducting a 100% DXpedition (which does not mean that I never show up on the
bands during day time). All information (including a link with exact GPS
coordinates and maybe later also some drone videos) can be found on the
Web site: http://www.qrz.com/db/dl7voa
QSLs V34AO via DL7VOA, by the Bureau or direct.

V4, ST. KITTS (Update/Change). Gary, G0FWX, will once again be active
from the QTH of John, V47JA, at Calypso Bay, St. Kitts (NA-104), but
this time as V47FWX (not V4/G0FWX) between November 8-15th. Activity
will be holiday style (in between sunbathing and the casino) on various
HF bands. QSL via M0URX or the OQRS.

VK9M, MELLISH REEF (Reminder/Update). Operators Dietmar/DL3DXX, Morten/
LB8DC, Robert/N7QT (Team Leader), Brian/N9ADG, Eric/SM1ALH, Hawk/SM5AQD

will be from Heralds-Beacon Islet, the only permanent land in the reef,
on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. They plan to have five stations
on the air. QSL via N7QT, direct, by the Bureau, ClubLog's OQRS (STRONGLY
RECOMMENDED), LoTW or eQSL. All QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW and eQSL
