2018 CASS AWARDS (Press Release)[edited].....
    Janusz Wegrzyn, SP9FIH has won the 2018 Single-Operator Cass Award
          The 3C0W team has won the 2018 Unlimited Cass Award

  Sponsored by Club Log, DXLab, and the Northern California DX Club, the
Cass Awards encourage DXpedition operating excellence by recognizing DX-
peditions that work the most unique callsigns. 

  Single-Operator Cass Award -- While QRV from St. Eustatius Island as
PJ5/SP9FIH during March 2018, Janusz, SP9FIH, worked 8257 unique stations
during 14 consecutive days of his one-man DXpedition. Janusz has won the
Single-Operator Cass Award for the second year in a row - from locations
on two different continents! Here’s a photo of Janusz receiving the Single-

  Unlimited Cass Award -- Also during March 2018, Girts Budis, YL2KL, Yuris
Petersons, YL2GM, and Kaspars Uztics, YL1ZF, worked 18,812 unique stations
as 3C0W on Annobon Island, winning the first Unlimited Cass Award and dem-
onstrating an outstanding effort to log as many DXers as possible. Here’s

  Cass Awards -- Presented annually, the Cass Awards encourage DXpeditions
to maximize the number of DXers worked with a plaque for the Single-Operator
DXpedition that works the most unique callsigns during a two-week interval,
and a plaque for the “unlimited” DXpedition that works the most unique call-

  These awards honor the wisdom and spirit of Cass, WA6AUD (SK), whose
stories in the West Coast DX Bulletin taught a generation of DXers that
DX IS!

3D2, FIJI. Dom, 3Z9DX, is currently active as 3D2DOM from Denarau Island
(OC-016), Fiji. He is expected to be active from either the Mamanuca IOTA
group (OC-121) or Yasawa IOTA group (OC-156) during the RSGB IOTA Contest

5C20, MOROCCO (Special Event). Look for special event station 5C20FT to
be active from the mountainous region of Ouirgane (SOUTH OF MARRAKECH)
between July 27-30th. Activity is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of
the succession of King Mohammed VI Ben Al-Hassan. QSL via RW6HS.

5R, MADAGASCAR. Giovanni, IZ2DPX, will be active as 5R8PX from Nosy Be
Island (AF-057) between August 3-17th. Activity will be on various HF
bands usiing SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via IK2DUW direct, ClubLog
or LoTW (one month later).

8Q, MALDIVES. Sugi, JI3KDH, will be active as 8Q7SU from the Maldives
(AS-013) between July 31st and August 7th. Activity will be on 20/17/15/
12/10 meters using CW only. Suggested frequencies are: 14028, 18073,

ARCTIC CIRCLE ACTIVITY (OJ9A and OH9A) [Press Release, date July 22nd,

  HEATWAVES ARE PASSING THROUGH THE ARCTIC CIRCLE – HOW ABOUT RADIO WAVES?
              TEMPERATURES ARE PREDICTED FOR 26C FOR THIS WEEK
           OJ9A, KATAJA/INAKARI (EU-192)  N 65° 41.80" E 24° 10.08"
   OH9A, LAPLAND ISLANDS (SELKA-SARVI)(EU-126) N 65° 36.90" E 24° 11.76"

  These two islands, located in the Tornio river delta, will hit the
bands for nearly six (6) days on Wednesday, July, 24th until Monday,
July, 29th, including the  IOTA Contest. The islands are only six (6)
miles apart. The OJ9A/OH9A radio team consisting of the following operators:
     Jaakko/OH1MA, Martti/OH2BH, Niko/OH2GEK, Ville/OH2MM, Juha/OH8NC,
     Aaro/OH9RJ, Jouko/OH9VC and Thomas/SM0CXU.
  They will split into two groups and commute between the islands via
the 17 foot Silver Hawk with Niko, OH2GEK steering.
  Their main transport will be out of the city of Tornio (OH9) with the
local 55 foot cruiser M/S Lady Carin (https://tinyurl.com/y584xd6l) by
Harbor Captain Arto Ponkala.
  There are only two islands split between Finland and Sweden - Market
Reef (EU-053) and Kataja/Inakari Island (EU-192). These two islands form
a pair with unique status in the DXCC and IOTA programs.
  The Finnish Regulatory Authority (Traficom) has supported amateur radio
and the DXCC program for 50-years by allocating OJ0 for Market Reef and
more recently OJ9 for Inakari Island and the IOTA program. To salute
Traficom for first OJ9 activation those QSOs with OJ9A will also count
for the Market Reef jubilee marathon currently underway.

  In parallel with OJ9A and OH9A, Market Reef (OJ0DX) will also be acti-
vated by a German, Swedish and Finnish team of DL3DXX, DJ4MF, DL5SE,

CY9C ST. PAUL ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Just A Reminder!). The CY9C DX-
pedition team will be active this week between July 31st-August 8th.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB, EME, FT8 and the Satel-

EA8, CANARY ISLANDS. Operators Kari/OH2BP, VÄINÖ/OH9GIT, Ewe/SM7BHM,
Anders/SM7GXR, Charlie/SM4RGD and Vilnis/YL2KF will be active as EA8DED
from Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife Island (AF-004, DIE S-012, WLOTA 1276,
EAA TF) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a Multi-Single/
Low-Power entry. QSL via OH2BP only direct.

FO/TO1, MARTINIQUE. HIDE, JF2QNM, will be active as FM/JF2QNM from Mar-
tinque (NA-107) between October 24-28th. Activity will be on holiday
style on various HF bands focusing on 30/17/12 meters using CW abd SSB.
He will also be in the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 26-27th) signing as
TO1J as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. QSL via JF2QNM.

FR, REUNION ISLAND. Operators Mario/FR4QT and Michel/F5PLC (FR/F5PLC)
will be active as FR4QT from Reunion Island (AF-016) during the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a Multi-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry.

HC, ECUADOR. Rick, NE8Z/HC1MD, will be active as HC1MD/2 from the Provincia
de Santa Elena, Ecuador, and from the Farallon Dillon Lighthouse (ARLHS
ECU-017)[arlhs.com], Capay on Hill, between July 27th-August 5th. Activity
will be mainly CW (FT8), and the equipment to be used are TS-50s into a
Spider Vertical (40/30/20/17m). QSL via K8LJG and LoTW after the trip.

  AF-104.  Operators Afif/7X2RO, Redha/7X5QB, 7X2WB and Enrico/DL8CX will
           be active as 7V9A from Srigina Island between July 25-29th.
           Activity will be on various HF bands using CW and SSB. They

  AF-118.  (Update/Postponed) Toufelaz, CN8QY, reports that the activity

(EU-002) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 27-28th) as a Single-Op/

P4, ARUBA (Early Announcement). Operators William/N4IQ and Bob/ND7J will
be active as P4/N4IQ and P4/ND7J, respectively, from Aruba (SA-036)
between July 8-15th (2020). They plan to be in the IARU HF World Champion-
ship (July 12-13th)[no mention of a special callsign]. They will try to
operate as much as possible during the week before the contest. QSL via

T6, AFGHANISTAN (Update). Robert, S53R (ex-YA5T), will once again be in
Kabul starting in the beginning of September and may continue until the
summer 2021. He will be there for two years working with the UN World Food
Program. Robert has been issued two callsign: T6AA and T6A (to be used
during contest). Activities outside of the contests will be limited to
his free time, but he plans to be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and the
Digital modes. QSL via S53R, LoTW or ClubLog.

TO80, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON. Operators Manfred/DK1BT, Wolf/DL4WK,
Annette/DL6SAK, Sigi/DL7DF, Frank/DL7UFR, Jan/SP3CYY and Leszek/SP3DOI
will be active as TO80SP from Saint Pierre and Miquelon (NA-032) between
October 2-14th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB and the
Digital modes. Their equipment consists of a Elecraft K2, two Icom IC7300,
three power amplifiers, a vertical for 160/80m, a 40m loop, a 30m loop,
a Spiderbeam for 20-10m and Loop antennas for 20/15/10m. QSL via DL7DF.

TF, ICELAND. Michael, DL6MHW, will be active as TF/DL6MHW from Iceland
