3D2/R, ROTUMA. Antoine, 3D2AG, announced the following November 1st, on
QRZ.com: "The next 3D2AG/p Rotuma Island one-op Dxpedition is planned
around the 28th November 2019 to January 5th 2020, weather and transport
permitting. Latest shipping news is that a boat shall depart Suva around
the 25th of November. Focus will be on low bands including 160m, 80m and
60m, with QRO when required. Beware of pirates impersonating the Rotuma
expeditions, especially in EU! There will be NO internet access during
the expedition; FT8 logs will be uploaded to ClubLog AFTER the expedition
and CW/SSB/RTTY contacts will be recorded on paper logs as customary for
this OP. Efforts are being made now to source a backup generator, fuel
and pack antennas / gear ready for the end of the month."
Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY, FT8(FT4) and SSTV.
A tentative "Rotuma Operating Schedule" is listed on QRZ.com by bands,
frequencies, times (UTC) by regional areas and suggested headings (LP/SP).
The QSL information is as follows: Via 3D2AG, using PayPal to address
(nyeurt@gmail.com) [preferred, safer] / direct for CW/SSB/RTTY and Club-
Log's OQRS (FT8/Digimodes only). Donations welcome to assist with generator
and fuel procurement for low bands QRO operation. NO LoTW.

3Y0I BOUVET ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (3Y0I Preparations Resumed). Excerpts
from an announcement on the 3Y0I Bouvet Island Web page, under "NEWS",
(https://bouvetoya.org/) reports the following interesting facts and
details of the second attempt to go to Bouvet Island:
  * "The 1st attempt took yet another toll".... "we had to cover all costs
involved"... "it’s been a privately funded venture from the very
beginning, we spent as much as 225.000 USDs from our personal funds
so far. Only 9% of our DXpedition budged got covered by donations, so
the final impact on our private monies is huge".
  * "We estimate that the second attempt would be around 170.000 USDs in
total. It’s less than our initial budget as we have collected a lot
of important equipment already + went under necessary extra-paid
training + secured many things logistically, too".... "we have already
secured half of the required budget to go back to Bouvet. But after
the last aftermath and considering the next suitable time-frames with
safe weather conditions at far South Atlantic Ocean, we’re simply
unable to repair our budget with personal funding this fast. We face
a risk to postpone the expedition, unfortunately. Yes, we did our
best to make it happen last March. Yes, we’re still up to take a
second chance. But this time it may only take place if we receive
financial support to cover at least half of the missing budget, which
is 85.000 USDs, to make 3Y0I coming true. And here’s how you can..."
  * "To make the fundraising more attractive, once we reach the required
minimum of 85k USDs, we will give donors a chance to win something
special". They list three things on their Web page.
  * The 3Y0I team now has a "GoFundMe" page to donate at:
        https://www.gofundme.com/f/3y0i-bouvet-island-expedition
It also contains details and pictures of the Bouvet project.

STANDARD TIME. Did you remember to change your clocks? Countries who
observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), which took place on Sunday, March
10th, are now expected to move their "local clocks" backward 1 hour on
Sunday, November 3rd, from 2:00 AM local time to 1:00 AM. In 2020, Day-
light Saving Time (DST) will again go into effect on Sunday, March 8th,
at 2:00 AM local time. For the history and details about ST and DST, as
well as an interesting map of the world (showing the countries who observe
DST), see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_time
              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time
              http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/2020.html
              https://www.timeanddate.com/time/change/usa?year=2020
ADDED NOTE: Hopefully, all amateur radio operators know NOT to change
their GMT/UTC/ZULU clocks. However, since most operators usually set their
computers to local time, some may have to change their settings on "some"
ham radio software (ex. logging, propagation, DXTelnet, etc..) programs.

VP6R PITCAIRN ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Update). Glenn, W0GJ, sent out the
following press release on Thursday, October 31st: "This morning we passed
80,000 contacts. Both the upper bands and the lower bands have had good
propagation. The team spirits have been high as the pileups continue. Many
all-time new ones are in the logs.
We were QRT for two hours this morning to completely dismantle and pack
up the stations and antennas at the old Radio Site. The view from there
is breath-taking, with a 360 degree view of the ocean from 900 feet above
sea level! The propagation was also breath-taking from there! The DX
Engineering team did an incredible job fabricating our 90-foot 160M
antenna. It went up and came down easily. The DX Engineering falling
derricks for the yagi masts made raising and lowering (and repairing)
the yagis very easy. There will be pictures on our website:
                                https://pitcairndx.com
We are back on the air at our base camp 40-10 meters for another 24
hours before we must QRT to pack up for catching the Braveheart."

         ----------------------------------------------------------

Glenn, W0GJ, also sent out the following press release late Saturday
evening, November 2nd, titled "VP6R Final Press Release 2 November 2019":
The VP6R DXpedition is now history with 82,700 Q’s in the log. We had
excellent weather for dismantling our stations & antennas. We have just
finished packing everything for the return trip home. The Braveheart is
transporting us to Mangareva tomorrow. It will then go on to Punta Arenas,
Chile, transporting some equipment we used for the South Orkney DXpedition.
The oldest Pitcairn resident passed away yesterday. We attended the
funeral this morning. He was laid to rest right next to Tom Christian,
VP6TC. It was a very moving experience.
We have helped two local hams get back on the air. Meralda Warren,
VP6MW, has a new 40/30/15M vertical and is set up now to operate FT8.
Mike Warren, VP6AZ, has a repaired vertical and new beam. They are both
on the air again! VP6MW called CQ just once using FT8 on 15M. She had an
instant pileup. I guess there is still a need for VP6 Pitcairn even after
VP6R went QRT!
We still miss Ralph, K0IR, who did almost all of the organization and
preparation for the VP6R DXpedition, but was unable to go at the last
minute. I stepped in literally 5 days before leaving home. The success
of VP6R is almost solely due to the details Ralph planned for. If there
was ever a DXpedition on autopilot, VP6R was it. THANKS, Ralph!!!!
Thanks to everyone who worked us to make the VP6R DXpedition such a
success at the bottom of the sunspot cycle.
Visit (www.pitcairndx.com) for QSLing details. It will be at least 7-10
days before most of the team gets home. OQRS will be activated then and
is the best way to receive a QSL card. Eventually our entire log will be
uploaded to LoTW. QSL via K9CT.
                  ---------------------------------------------

-- The Board of Directors of The Yasme Foundation at its October 22nd
board meeting approved a supporting grant of 4,000 USDs to ClubLog and
Michael Wells, G7VJR. The grant will support capital improvements, needed
to take the system into the future with improved resiliency, enhanced
performance, and the hardware needed for continued innovation such as
CloudLog. (The initial version of this release mistakenly identified
CloudLog (https://www.magicbug.co.uk/cloudlog/) as a ClubLog project -
Yasme regrets the error.)
Yasme's association with Club Log began with a grant in 2012 when the
system hosted 67 million QSOs with 7,300 users. Today that number has
reached 590 million QSOs with 70,000 active users.
