OC-139. (VK5KI KANGAROO ISLAND DXPEDITION WRAP UP) Grant, VK5GR, posted
the following on July 23rd [edited]: Folks -- Firstly thanks to
everyone who managed to work us from Kangaroo Island last week.
While propagation was challenging, and we were only able to
operate part time (as it was also a family holiday) we still
managed to put over 1200 contacts in the log. I was quite sur-
prised and pleased at how many comments we received back along
the lines of "Thanks for the ATNI". While one tends to think of
islands in the 40%+ counted for IOTA range as being of low
interest, it seems that the IOTA program is still alive and
well, and presumably attracting new interest from people who do
still need already activated IOTAs for their tally. Its fair to
say it has inspired me to plan a return to Kangaroo Island again,
perhaps in the next 2 years, rather than leaving it for 4 years
since my last activation as VK5GR/P.
OQRS is open through my manager Charles, M0OXO. Full details
can be found on my website: https://vk5gr-iota.net
From a statistics perspective - this was a two man operation.
We found the majority of openings on 30 and 40m, with less
success on 20m (we presume due to the CME which hit on the
first day of the trip coupled with it being mid winter here).
We had over 84% unique contacts in the log and worked 80 DXCC
for 41 hours on the air. We had two stations sharing ¼ verticals
           for 30 and 40m, a HexBeam for 20-10m and an inverted V for 80m -
each capable of 400W. It's fair to say that my two favorite
openings were the CW contacts on 30m on Wednesday night and CW
on 40m on Saturday morning. About 50% of the total contacts were
via FT8, 30% CW and 20% SSB. SSB was very hard as, despite our
best efforts, international SSB to anywhere other than the US
on 20m and a very small number of Europeans on 40m just didn't
appear. Had 20m played ball at night or on Long Path in the
afternoons we would have made more contacts I am sure - but
the MUF struggled to climb above 12 MHz on several nights and
the night it did get there we were asleep - mea culpa!
Anyway thanks again everyone who made contact. I look forward
to bringing you all another "not so rare" IOTA from VK hopefully
in the next 6-9 months or so. (as the chance for anything inter-
national is pretty much sunk until 2022 I fear).

OC-148. Musa, YD9MBM, will be active from Timor Island during the RSGB
IOTA Contest (July 25-26th) as a Single-Op/Low-Power entry.
           QSL via LoTW.

ADDED NOTE ABOUT THE RSGB CONTEST (July 25-26th): Per the RSGB Contest
Committee, the IOTA Contest this year is exclusively for Single-Operators
using their home stations, and only "Single Operator Fixed Island"
stations and "Single Operator Fixed World" stations will be eligible

turbing messages that some of our recipients did not receive the cards

Mail for US and Canada still stuck at VKO - there are no flights.
EU getting the cards with one month delay.
Parsel Post for members of our favorite sponsor - GDXF, three weeks
ago went through the German Customs and stuck there with nothing

S0, WESTERN SAHARA. John, K8YSE, reports that the Western Sahara special
callsign S0S was on the QO-100 Geo Satellite July 20th. QSL via EA2JG,
ClubLog's OQRS - NO LoTW - NO BUREAU.

TO0, ST. BARTHELEMY (Update/Callsign & Op Change). Operators Marco/FS4WBS,
Claude/FS5GL and Franck/FG4ST are planning to be active as TO0Z (not
FJ/FS4WBS and FJ/FS5GL as first reported) from Saint Barthelemy (NA-146)
between September 14-17th. Activity will be on 40/20/17 meters using CW,
SSB and FT8, with an IC-7300 into a multi-band dipoles and a CrankIR
vertical. QSL will only be via LoTW.

V4, ST. KITTS (Update/Change). John, W5JON/V47JA, reports, "I am sorry
to say American Airlines has canceled my August 22nd - September 5th,
2020, flights to/from St Kitts. The dates have changed to October 13th
- October 27, 2020, for my next trip to St Kitts. It appears the St. Kitts
(SKB) airport will continue to remained closed, as there are currently
no virus cases on St. Kitts, and I guess they want to be sure to keep
it that way." So, hopefully John will once again be active as V47JA from
his Calypso Bay, St. Kitts, West Indies vacation home, located 200 feet
from the Caribbean Sea, between the above dates. Activity usually will
be on 160-6 meters (incl. 60m) using SSB and FT8, with emphasis on 6m
and 160m - FT8. Equipment is a Yaesu FT1000MP, FT857D and an Elecraft
KPA500 Amplifier. John states his antennas are a Mosley Mini32A 10/15/20m,
33' Vertical 10-40m, 35' Top Loaded 80m Vertical, 160m Vertical and 6m
5 element Yagi. ALL QSLs go to W5JON direct or via LoTW. NO Bureau QSLs.

W4, UNITED STATES (Special Event). Brad, N9EN, from Bluff City, TN,
informs OPDX that he will activate the special event station W4A between
December 18-20th. Activity is to honor of Major Edwin Howard Armstrong's
birthday which is on December 18th. Brad states [edited], "The ARRL has
issued me the callsign, W4A, for use through those dates. I have some
special QSL cards that I had printed up (1,000 of them) and will mainly
be operating on 20 meters and 40 meters. It will be a CW operation only.
I will be using a Cushcraft XM240 (2-el. 40 meter monoband yagi) at 25m
and a Hygain 204BA (4-el. 20 meter monoband yagi) at 27m above the ground.
I will also be using my Ameritron AL-82 amplifier, which puts out roughly
a kW of power. I also have antennas for 15 meters - a small 3-element 15
meter monoband yagi, fixed on EU; a full-size 80 meter delta loop and an
inverted Vee for 160 meters. I will try out these other bands, as con-
ditions allow, but the majority of the QSOs will be on 20 & 40 meters.
This will be my "small effort" to honor a man who was our country's most
important inventors in radio, television, radar and cell phones. Among
his inventions were: the regenerative and the super-regenerative circuit;
the superheterodyne circuit; the invention of frequency modulation and
stereo multiplexing, as well as a major improvement in radar at the end
of World War II. I will have a page on QRZ.com for the event and also
the Swedish national ham radio magazine, 'QTC', will have a write-up on
my special event. Also, the ARRL will be listing the event in QST magazine."

XR0, EASTER ISLAND (Canceled). Hans-Martin, DK2HM, who was expected to
be active as XR0YHM from Easter Island (SA-001) between August 27th and
September 7th, announced on July 21st that he has canceled his operation.
He posted the following on his QRZ.com page [edited]: "Unfortunately, the
XR0YHM activity from Easter Island Rapa Nui (IOTA SA-001) by Hans-Martin,
DK2HM, planned for August/September 2020 is canceled. All flights have
been canceled by the air company now and there is no chance at the moment
to postpone the flight tickets or to get a safe new date for a future
activity at the moment. As there is no possibility to change the tickets
to a future date so far, Hans-Martin, DK2HM, is now trying to get a full
refund of the ticket money. Having started with the preparations already
in October 2019 nobody would have ever thought, how things could change
like this. No matter the cancellation, a big THANK YOU goes out to the
Radio Club de Chile for all the assistance regarding the license, Wolfgang,
DK7CY, for his great technical support in preparation of this and past
activities, Alex, 5B4ALX, for the design of the logo and EUDXF European
DX Foundation for giving background support and highly appreciated know-
ledge by all the members regarding dxpeditions all the time. Hopefully,
there will come a new chance to put this radio activity from Easter
Island Rapa Nui into practice. Stay safe. vy 73, Hans-Martin DK2HM"

XV9, VIETNAM. Jesus, WP4JBG, is now active as XV9G (previously 3W9G) from
Ho Chi Minh City. He now lives in Vietnam and operates from the 11th floor
of an apartment that overlooks Tan Son Nhat International Airport. His
equipment is a Yaesu FT-891 running barefoot with 100W with a modified
MFJ-1622 apartment antenna. Jesus states [edited], "I will confirm all
QSOs via QRZ.com and/or eQSL. I can not confirm paper QSL cards in Viet-
nam due to postal service is not reliable and probably the card will not
make it to my QTH. If you need a paper confirmation card, you can send it
to my home country Puerto Rico (WP4JBG). It will take a few months for the
confirmation due to I only go back every 4 months and return to Vietnam."
