*** SPECIAL NOTE BY EDITOR: Over the next couple of weeks, the OPDX
bulletin "may not" be published and/or "possibly" smaller than
normal because I will be on vacation/holiday. I am planning to
travel to Tennessee to visit my grand-kids and daughter (and son-
in-law). As usual, any "major" announcements will be sent out.
The October 18th bulletin should be back to normal. PLEASE, continue
to send your DX info (You never know what I might do)....

CQ COMMUNICATION NEWS (Press Release, dated September 20th). [Dr. Jack
Purdum, W8TEE, Joins CQ Staff as Microcontrollers Editor Anthony Luscre,
K8ZT, to Refocus on Exploring Ham Radio's Many Facets]. Rich Moseson,
W2VU, CQ Editor, sent out the following: Arduino authority Jack Purdum,
W8TEE, is joining the CQ staff as Microcontrollers Editor, while current
Microcontrollers Editor Anthony Luscre, K8ZT, shifts to a new column
encouraging hams to explore different activities within the hobby, CQ
Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU, announced today.
Purdum is a retired professor of computer technology at Purdue Uni-
versity, who previously taught at Creighton and Butler Universities. He
is the author or co-author of several programming books, including two
editions of Arduino Projects for Amateur Radio as well as the more recent
Microcontroller Projects for Amateur Radio. Jack has written previously
for CQ, most recently as Guest Microcontrollers Editor in our June 2021
issue. Purdum's vision for the column that it "will talk about tips and
tricks, useful software tools and even applications that might make ex-
perimenting easier. The other thing I want to do is encourage hams who
have never tried to program to see how easy it really is, yet the power
it brings to the table." Jack's first column will appear in the November
issue.
Luscre, who has been CQ's Microcontrollers Editor since 2018 (and New
Products Editor prior to that), will continue as a Contributing Editor,
shifting his focus to exploring the many nooks and crannies of amateur
radio. His goal is to help expand the horizons of newer hams who are
still discovering different aspects of the hobby as well as experienced
hams who are looking for a change of pace. Anthony's new column, "Ham
Radio Explorer," will premiere in the December issue of CQ.

EP, IRAN (News). The following was forwarded by QSL Manager Pedro, EA5GL,
[edited]:
The Alborz DX group (EP2C) was founded in 2015 with the help of the 3
most active Iranian ham radio operators (EP2LMA, EP2LSH, EP2MIR). For the
first time in the last decade, we managed to conduct serious ham radio
activities, such as classes, field days, camps, international DXpeditions,
and IOTA activations. The most significant activities of the Alborz DX
group were support and cooperation with EP6T, EP2A and EP6RRC.
In 2019, due to the expansion of activities, growth of members, and the
need to communicate with national and international authorities, we up-
graded to an NGO named AARS (Alborz Amateur Radio Society).
Due to the growth of members and absence of any ham radio shop and
also economic hardship, most of the licensed ham radio operators cannot
access the required equipment and the AARS cannot fulfill their needs
so all kinds of donations (money, equipment, and even printed material)
will be appreciated.
You can send your donations through Paypal to: alborzdxclub@gmail.com
With your donations:
1 - We can improve our club condition.
2 - We will be able to work on more bands with EP2C, so world hams can
have more contact with EP stations.
3 - Happily will report all donations with the photos on our website.
      Our Website is: http://www.ep2c.ir

Thank you, Mohammad, EP2LMA, President of AARS
