3B8, MAURITIUS (Reminder). Slavo, SP2JMB, and his XYL Dorota/SP2TO will
once again be active as 3B8GY from Mauritius between February 5-25th.
Last activity was in 2011. Operations will be on various HF bands and
modes (CW, SSB, RTTY). QSL via SP2JMB direct or ClubLog's QQRS (Log
online: http://sp2jmb.pl/).

3B9, RODRIGUES ISLAND. QSL Manager Charles, M0OXO, (https://www.m0oxo.com/)
reports on February 5th, that 'Rocky' Robert, 3B9FR, the only resident
Ham on Rodrigues Island will be off air now for around 10 days. His
current antenna (G3TXQ Hexbeam from MW0JZE) has been taken down in pre-
paration for installation of his new Quad which should be up in the coming
days. A new QSL card will be designed and printed when the new additions
are made to his station.

3Y0J BOUVET ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS. The following was posted on the 3Y0J
FaceBook page by Ken, LA7GIA, on February 2nd, with pictures [edited]:
More DX Engineering equipment arrived in Oslo today. We're preparing
for a good top-band setup. For 160m and 80m we bring with us 3 antennas
for EACH band both spider-poles and DX Engineering aluminum verticals.
This is different technologies and thus we can adapt to various site
conditions. We can also risk losing 2 antennas on 160 and still we're
ON. Same on 80m. We have a good amount of spare parts and you can trust
us we will be WELL prepared. Dave WD5COV has started installing the 160m
alu vertical in US where he will construct a fallen derrick system to
get it up in the air. All 21m tall 160/80m verticals will be guyed in 4
directions and 4 levels and have 40 ground radials. We have a 1500W power
limit which is an exception from the regulation. We also bring with us
a RX antenna system to be installed 300m away from the camp so we can
feed this signal to all 160-30m stations simultaneously!
Hopefully the top-band CW pileup will be like the photo below (CQWW160).
What is your plan on top-band? And what is your preparation to work Bouvet
on 160? Let us know!

time using low power (IC-7300 and wires) from a rooftop apartment. He
will, of course, upload logs to LoTW and ClubLog, but possibly only after
his return to the UK. QSL direct to Don's home callsign or via ClubLog's
OQRS.

crossed..." Activity will be holiday style on 80-10 meters (possibly 160m),
using mainly CW with a Elecraft K2 with 100 watts into verticals (Butternut

HC, ECUADOR. John, N9EAJ, reports on QRZ.com, that he will be active as
HC1FIT from a location 10,000 feet above sea level in the Andes mountains
outside Otavalo in the Imbabura Province which is NNE from Quito close
to the Columbian border. He will be there between February 3-24th. He
states [edited], "I will be using a Kenwood TS-590SG transceiver plus
Elecraft KPA-500 amplifier to a CrankIR vertical antenna. Mostly SSB with
perhaps some slow CW on 10 thru 40 meters. I love CW but with my aging
ears (or brain?), I have trouble picking out individual callsigns when
many are calling. If I operate CW it will NOT be keyboard generated but
rather from my Begali traveler hand key and most likely will be split -
please bear with me." John will be uploading his log regularly to ClubLog
and perhaps LoTW (he is unsure at this point) during the operation. He
mentions, "I do not operate on 60 meters and do not have an antenna for
80 meters. Neither do I use FT8/4 so please don't ask."

MDXC PRESENTATION. The Madison DX Club's (MDXC) will have a ZOOM pre-
sentation on Tuesday, February 8th. The program will be "The Rebirth of
HF Communications", presented Paul Denisowski, KO4LZ, Product Management
Engineer for Rohde & Schwarz.
For February, they will have a program on the future of HF communi-
cations. Morse Code is no longer required for radio operators in the
Navy. Most Nation sponsored Shortwave Broadcasters (such as the VOA)
have suspended their HF broadcasts. So will equipment manufacturers
abandon the HF spectrum? Where will this leave amateur radio and DXing?
Join us for their February program and find out what the future holds.
The MDXC ZOOM host will be Kevin Shea, N9JKP, that will be online from
0000 UTC to socialize before the business meeting begins and to provide
time to work through any technical issues. A brief business meeting will
begin at 0030 UTC. The program begins at 0100 UTC, sharp. All interested
hams are welcome.

TX5N AUSTRAL ISLANDS DXPEDITION NEWS (Update). Gene, K5GS, sent out the
following update on February 3rd [edited]: Over the weekend of January 28th,
several TX5N team members met in Northern California to consolidate, test
and pack the TX5N equipment for shipment to Raivavae, Austral Islands.
After reviewing several transportation alternatives, we located a firm
in Tahiti that will accept our shipment and transport it to the island
via cargo ship.
We have approximately 1,000 pounds (450kg) of equipment on the way to
Tahiti. The equipment inventory includes Elecraft transceivers and amp-
lifiers, a Flex PGXL amplifier, two SteppIR BigIR antennas w/80 meters,
various mono band VDAs, an NA4RR hex beam and a 160m vertical.
All team members have their airline and hotel reservations to Papeete,
Tahiti, with onward passage to Raivavae. The operating location will be
Pension Tama Raivavae, a small inn which has hosted many previous DX-
peditions.
Each team member will have a small bungalow, and radio operations will
be conducted from a dedicated building on the beach. Most antennas will
be beach mounted. Being on the north side of the island we expect good
working conditions.
There are several photographs of the Equipment Weekend activity at:
                    https://tx5n.net/packing-weekend/
                    https://tx5n.net/
We are on schedule for this April, 2022 project.
  73, Team TX5N

V3, BELIZE. Maik "Mike", DJ2QV, is now active as V31QV from Belize. The
length of his stay is not known. Activity has been on 20/17/12 meters CW
between 1730-1930z. QSL via LoTW.

V7, MARSHALL ISLANDS. Jeff "JT", KD7ADI, has been active as V7/KD7ADI
from Kwajalein Atoll (OC-028, WW Loc. RJ38ur) this past week on 20 meters
FT8 between 0730-0900z. According to his QRZ.com page, he has been there
since January 5th, and will be working there "for the foreseeable future".
Activity is limited due to his job. There has been some QSNs on 40 meters
FT8, but nothing regular to report. QSL via LoTW and ClubLog.

VU, INDIA (Also U.S.). Abie, VU2ABE/AB1F, informs OPDX on the February
1st, "I've been silent (from India) for more than a few weeks due to the
uncertainty of travel (four postponements so far), but I've stayed active
on the radio. I hope to get back next week and operate as AB1F again."
He also posted the following on FaceBook: Amateur Radio - The Antidote
for Social Distancing! Operating as VU2ABE, bridged vast distances during
a time of social distancing, making 1,052 contacts (QSO in radio parlance)
between November 2021 and January 2022 from Shillong, India (NL55wn) on
15 meters in SSB mode using just 80 watts.
The lone North American station was a KL7 (Alaska) and the single South
American contact was a CX7 (Uruguay). (The line leading to Antarctica is
a mapping error for 8J100CB a special event station from Chiba, Japan.)
In the process, polished my conversational Nihongo (???) and Russkiy
(???????), the two countries with the bulk of the contacts.
Unfortunately, radio is no help with near neighbors with whom I was
in "skip" (another radio term), if you get my drift.
See the map that he was talking about at:
