*** SPECIAL NOTE FROM EDITOR (by KB8NW): Once again, the following annual
special events will be taking place over the next several days.
SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event station N3U/Flt93 (N3U/United
Flight 93) to be activated once again between September 9-14th, to remind
"Amateur Radio Operators World-Wide" of the tragic events that happened
near Shanksville (Pa), New York City and Washington DC, on September 11th,
2001. This will be their 10th year for N3U and this memorial operation.
Bob informs OPDX, "This year two Presidential Candidates (Trump & Biden)
will both be attending and with COVID-19, it will not be as involved
(or long) as previous years. We also had a lot of competition this year
with the VHF contest on the same weekend and operators were scarce, but
we should have enough to make a showing on most ham bands. As you know
the band conditions are bad, BUT FT-8 seems to always save the day, so
we will be using both FT-8 and FT-4. LoTW will also be used for logging
all digital and most SSB and CW. Will also try to spot on DX Summit.
PLEASE NOTE: When we 1st activated N3U in 2010, the grounds didn't look
much different as on that fateful day in Sept 11, 2001. It took 10 years,
but now it's transformed into a very beautiful national monument location.

SPECIAL EVENT. Members of the Wireless Association Of New York City will
activate special event station WA2NYC once again to commemorate the 19th
anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City,
and to remember that over 2900 people lost their lives on that day. The
station will be operational between 0000z, September 10th, and 0300z,
September 14th, 2020. The suggested frequencies are 28450, 21350, 14300,
7238 kHz and DSTAR XREF020B & Smart Group SEPT11. The WA2NYC station will
be on DSTAR XREF020B and Smart Group SEPT11 each evening from 7-11PM
Eastern Time (2300-0300z). The log will be uploaded to LoTW. If you would
like a QSL card, send a SASE to the club address (see QRZ.com) or by
the Bureau. This operation is in memory of Robert Norton, K2IE/SK.
SPECIAL EVENT (Highway to a DX Party!). The Citrus Belt Amateur Radio
Club of San Bernardino (w6jbt.org), California, is once again hosting
(probably one of the most fun special event activities) the 21st annual
"Route 66 On The Air" special event between 0000z on Saturday, September
12th and 2359z on Sunday, September 20th. The purpose of this event is
to offer amateur radio operators a fun way to "Relive the Ride" of their
own memories of Route 66, and to celebrate the highway's 94th anniversary.
The U.S. Highway 66 established in 1926, was the first major improved
highway to link the west coast with the nation's heartland. Through stories,
songs, and TV shows, the highway came to symbolize the spirit of the freedom
of the open road, inspiring many to see America.
Look for the following 21 stations (two are rovers) operating in or
around the major cities along the old "Route 66" from Santa Monica,
California, to Chicago, Illinois:

Special event stations are expected to be found in the vicinity of the
following frequencies. (Look for digital modes in the standard band segments
for such mode) All frequencies +/- QRM:
CW - 3533, 7033, 10110, 14033, 18080, 21033, 24900, 28033 and 50033 kHz
SSB - 3866, 7266, 14266, 18164, 21366, 24966, 28466 and 50166 kHz
Digi - 3573, 7074, 10136, 14074, 18100, 21074, 24915 and 28074 kHz
R66 MOBILE Operations - Any amateurs operating while actually driving
along Route 66 during the special event period are encouraged to
take part in "Route 66 On The Air", by using the designation
"mobile 66" for SSB or "/m66" for CW after their callsigns. All
other amateur radio operators are welcome to contact these mobile
operators. NOTE: ONLY W6S AND W6T ARE ONLY THE OFFICIAL EVENT
ROVER/MOBILE STATIONS AND WILL BE ENDORSED ON THE EVENT CERTIFICATE.
REPEATERS - Some of the participating clubs will also be operating this
event from their local VHF/UHF repeaters. Check the ARRL repeater
guide for possible repeater frequencies, if you're in the local
area.
2020 ROUTE 66 - LOG SHEET: This simple log sheet can be used during
the event for a quick log record. Simply click on the link below and
print off. When printing make sure it's in "Landscape" orientation.
