3V, TUNISIA. Operator SWL Ashraf "Ash", 3V4-002 (KF5EYY), will be active
as 3V8SF from the Scout Radio Club of Sfax city club station during the
ARRL Inter. DX CW Contest (February 19-20th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band
(80m)/Low-Power entry. QSL via LX1NO or LoTW. Read about Ashraf on the
following Web page at: http://www.kf5eyy.info

8Q, MALDIVES (Update). Operators Karel/OK2WM and Vlad/OK2WX are now
active as 8Q7WM and 8Q7WX, respectively, from Innahura Island (AS-013)
until March 8th. Activity will be on 160/80/40 meters using CW and SSB.
However, they posted on QRZ.com the following: "We are delayed, our ver-
ticals have ended in Male, the seaplane will not carry them. On Thursday
they will be transported by a supply ship to the island, from Friday
evening we will hopefully be at 160/80m." QSL via their home callsigns.

9K, KUWAIT. Abdallah, 9K2GS, will be active as 9K2K during the CQWW WPX
SSB Contest (March 26-27th) and CQWW WPX Contest (May 28-29th) as a Single-
Op/High-Power entry. QSL via EC6DX or LoTW.

AAW 2022. The 19th Antarctic Activity Week (AAW) will take place next
week between February 21-27th. All Radio Amateurs (OMs & SWLs) around
the world, Clubs and Organizations as well as other important groups
and individual operators World-Wide, are invited to join and share with
them in this initiative. Apply your special AAW's callsign, get a WAP
reference and jump into the competition. Some operators have already
signed-up to participate. See the following Web page at:
        http://www.waponline.it/antarctic-activity-week/aaw-2022
The WAP's intention is to draw WW attention to the Antarctic Continent,
and the AAW is a unique event World-Wide (WW) where Hams (in any corner
of the world, and not necessarily in Antarctica) wish to celebrate and
improve World-Wide interest around the Icy Continent.
Purpose of the A.A.W. is to increase world wide interest around Antarctic
Continent and its related matters with the aim of staying close to the
researchers and personnel who are spending their time away from home and
families studying the Antarctic life and its secrets. An additional pur-
pose is to share what Nations and Organizations are doing to protect this
still non contaminated corner of the world, and to share a WW message
of peace.

D4, CAPE VERDE (Reminder). Oliver, DJ5QW, will be active as D4CW and D44DX
from Santa Maria village, Sal Island (AF-086), Cape Verde, between February
19th and March 2nd. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using CW and SSB. QSL
via his home callsign or by the DARC Bureau.

D4, CAPE VERDE (Update). Rob, DM4AO, who is active as D44AO from Ilha de
Santiago, Cape Verde (AF-005, WW Loc. HK84EV, WLOTA 0158), until February
25th, reports the following on QRZ.com, February 14th: "Spent the whole
day yesterday with preparing a radial network of 42 radials and finally
managed to put up the Butternut despite the heavy winds. Enjoyed about
500 QSOs today in nice pile-ups to see that all highbands (and the antenna)
work quite well. Two hours ago - after the 30m pile-up has grown and
started to bring some fun - suddenly the radio died with no warning. So
now I have a broken radio. :-( Will try to get some help from a local
Ham but right now I fear the DXpedition is over after a mere 500 QSOs
and before the contest... Sorry guys!"
However, on February 15th, Rob posted: "Thanks to the help of Pierpaolo,
D44PM, I am back on air again after a sudden power failure killed my power
supply." There were plenty of QSNs on the cluster later that day on 80/40/
30/20/12/10 meters. Remember to look for him in the ARRL Inter. DX CW
Contest (February 19-20th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. QSL
via his home callsign, by the Bureau or direct. See QRZ.com for details.

EA8, CANARY ISLANDS (Satellite Op). Philippe, EA4NF, will be active as
EA8/EA4NF from Hierro Island (AF-004), the smallest island of the Canary
Island and the furthest west, between March 4-6th. Activity will be on
the FM and Linear LEO satellites, and he plans to activate the very rare
grids IL07 and IL17. QSL via LoTW. You can follow Philippe's activities
on Twitter: https://twitter.com/EA4NF_SAT

FG/TO3, GUADELOUPE. Operators Gildas/F6HMQ and Michel/F6GWV will once
again be active as FG/F6HMQ and FG/F6GWV, respectively, from Guadeloupe
between February 25th and March 27th. Activity will be holiday style on
various HF bands using "light equipment". They will also be in the ARRL
International DX SSB Contest (March 5-6th) and the CQWW WPX SSB Contest
(March 26-27) using the callsign TO3Z. QSL TO3Z via F6HMQ. QSL FG/F6GWV
and Gildas FG/F6HMQ via their home callsign, direct or by the Bureau.

FT/W CROZET ISLAND 2022 DXPEDITION NEWS. The following was posted by
Thierry Mazel, F6CUK, on February 14th [edited]: After the permission
granted by the TAAF and the DXpedition announcement, time has come to
gather the equipment and move forward with the preparations. As you can
see on the picture below, talks are extensive! Photo TAAF:
         http://crozet2022.r-e-f.org/images/image-2_4d1tmm2k.png
Dates are now known. The Marion Dufresne will leave Reunion Island on
December 8th, with a stopover at Tromelin to resupply the people there (an-
other nice DX), then bound for Crozet. I should get there around Christmas.
The ship will come back on March 26th, 2023, to pick us up, and after stop-
overs at Kerguelen and Amsterdam, arrive at Reunion on April 16th, 2023.
Therefore, I will be on Alfred Faure base for a solid 3 months. These dates
may vary slightly depending on weather conditions.
I am in close contact with the TAAF (Many thanks to the man in charge of
Crozet, and to Mr. Chareyre for their attention) in order to prepare my
arrival in the best possible conditions. Some of the main points under
discussion are where the antennas (HF and QO-100) will be installed, as
well as the shack.
Obviously, I will not start operating the day after my arrival. I will
need to install the antennas and the station. For that, other people's help
will be required. The weather will have its role to play, as it would be
impossible to climb to the roof, erect a mast under high winds: the base
commander will have to give his approval. Starting the operation will not
be the top priority of the first day.
In theory, I will stay in the Albatros building. It is next to the Biomar
building. It looks like they have arranged it so that I will not be of any
nuisance to the other people (night operation for example). Looking at the
picture below will give you a better idea.

On the left is the Biomar building, on the right is the Albatros. Thank
you to Mr. Stichelbaut for allowing us to use his picture.
The callsign is not issued yet, and I have requested a special call to
commemorate the 60 years of the first transmissions made by Mr. Baudelot,
first ham operator on the island in the years 61/62. The callsign will be
released only hours before the start of the activity by Paul F6EXV and Jean-
Michel F6AJA, i.e. after my arrival on the island. Paul will inform via
internet and Twitter, Jean-Michel on his DX bulletin. This will be so to
avoid pirate activities. Anything not coming from Paul or Jean-Michel will
be mere speculation. Be cautious of the FT4Wxxx that might show up !
As for the equipment, things are also progressing. Many sponsors have
kindly responded to our solicitations. Contrary to our initial information,
I will not be using K3s. Since Elecraft no longer produces K3S, it was
difficult for them to loan or sell some to me. They mentioned a K4 but I
do not want to go with only one transceiver, I need at least a second one
in case of break down. Considering the procurement problems that all manu-
facturers are facing, I did not want to take any risk. Consequently, I have
decided to use a transceiver that I have at home, as well as used by F6KOP
for their DXpeditions, namely the TS-590. It is fully equipped, and has a
big advantage: no interface required to operate FT8, a mere USB cable be-
tween the rig and the laptop is enough. Antenna plugs, a receiving antenna
connector, an RS232 interface, USB, all filters and ATU. So no further
options will be required. Furthermore, it has a great receiver, and can be
easily found second-hand at very reasonable price.
So, I purchased a TS-590 which is right now being modified by the Kenwood
after sale service, to solve the known ALC issue. This modification is
covered by the Kenwood warranty. I will soon purchase another 590 that will
also be modified.
On the amplifier side, after talks and advice from the Clipperton DX Club
and the F6KOP team, I have chosen a 500W tube amp, the Acom 1010, less fra-
gile than solid state amps. It can bear with a 3/1 SWR, which is a great
advantage for a place where I will not be in full control of the environ-
ment. So I will purchase a 1010 and have another one loaned by the CDXC via
F6KOP. Let them be thanked for this.
I also thank Acom company for the discount they are offering for the
purchase, but this is not a gift. They are doing the best they can, still,
the cost is not negligible in the overall budget.
The antennas will be the subject of another press release, after we have
made some tests at Paul's QTH in the spring. More to come later.
I have asked the TAAF to get permission to send part of the equipment with
the previous ship supply mission (leaving in November). It sometimes happens
that, because of the weather during landing, not everything can be brought
to the island. Imagine being on the island without a station! As I often
say, Crozet is not Tahiti !
A lot remains to be done. Going to the TAAF islands for 4 months needs a
lot of work, and is to be deserved. One of the next items on the agenda is
winter clothing, and organizing skeds with school children's via QO-100.
Thank you to all the team members as well as to our sponsors, nothing
would be possible without them.
As a conclusion, you can see preparations are going well, thanks to the
continuous team work. Even if sponsors are helping a lot, expenses go on,
and more help will be welcome. I suppose Crozet will be an ATNO for many,
and you can't afford missing it, as nobody knows when the next ham oper-
ation will take place from this #3 most needed. Thank you all!

Unfortunately, almost all participants fell ill with the
coronovirus. In this regard, the departure from Vorkuta is
scheduled for the end of March. But I already doubt that in
general this year we will get to this island.

depends on weather. Exact dates - TBA. Like previously, activity
will be from local sunrise till dusk - sorry, local limitations
are still in place. Mostly CW on 14/21/28 depends on propagation.
If you really need SSB - just send me E-mail and I'll try to
move to SSB quickly (internet coverage is perfect there).

QRZ.com [edited]: "It will not be a regular DX-pedition, but rather a bit
of extreme portable operation, using Lab599 TX-500 Heavy Duty QRP-Trans-
ceiver with 5-10 watts (99% CW) and a vertical antenna with three elevated
resonant radials on a DX Wire Mini glass-fiber pole. Possibly, I will be
able to use a 50W amplifier provided that I will find a suitable battery
power source. Activity will be every 14 days on my day off from my work at
the Oyu Tolgoi Copper & Gold Mine. After a month, it could be activity once
per week. Most likely days of operations will be Sundays, but these second
month on each Roster swing, Thursdays may be alternative days. I will be
10 weeks on site and 5 weeks home in Russia as it looks now. Normal Rosters
are 4/2 weeks, but COVID changes that a bit to longer Rosters. My QSL
Manager will be Pedro, EA5GL. LoTW will also be used."

JW, SVALBARD (Update). The "DX Adventure Team" provides the following
update to the DXpedition to Svalbard as JW0X and JW1000QO taking place
between April 19-26th, 2022. The following is a press release [edited]:
DX-Adventure is a joint venture of Max-ON5UR and Erik-ON4ANN, and
consists of 15 very enthusiastic people with all experience in partici-
pating or organizing a DX-pedition.
The first DX-Adventure project is therefore immediately ambitious:
The Arctic Archipelago - Svalbard - IOTA EU-026 from April 19-26th,
  2022.
The setup is to be active with 5 stations on all HF bands in different
modes (CW, SSB, RTTY, FT8-FT4). In addition, we have the ambition to be
the first to activate EU-026 on QO-100 (as JW1000QO). Three team members
take on the challenge of driving a snowmobile all the way to Kapp Linné,
  about 100km east of Longyearbyen.
This is the only location that allows a "line of sight" on the QO-100
satellite. In addition, Kapp Linné is also on the edge of the satellite
footprint - speaking of a challenge...

TO1, FRENCH GUYANA. Herve, F5HRY, will once again be active as TO1A from
the FY5KE station (Radio Amateurs Club de Kourou) during the ARRL Inter-
national DX CW Contest (February 19-20th). QSL via his home callsign or
LoTW.

V3, BELIZE. Bob, W0BNC, will be active as V31BN from Haulover Bridge,
Belize, between March 5-10th. He states on QRZ.com, "I will be doing at
least one POTA activation for certain from V3-0057, the Altun Ha Archeo-
logical Reserve, one of the many Mayan ruins in the country. I will also
be on the air in the evenings from my cabana, located about 5 miles north
of Belize City. Other parks I will attempt to get to:
V3-0067, Community Baboon Sanctuary Wildlife Area
         V3-0022, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary
         V3-0026, Spanish Creek Wildlife Area
         V3-0027, Shallow Creek Marine Reserve
The only downside to this is I will be QRP. I am bringing my KX2 with a
variety of wire antennas, and a PAC12 vertical. But I don't think this
will stop me from making contacts! I will be operating on SSB, CW, and
FT8. Once I'm back home, I will start working on getting QSL cards out.
This is the initial design I have, although it might change once I get
home and look through my photos."
